Do you need some fresh ideas for books to read? Award-winning books are always good choices. Check out the following links for some great children’s literature:
- First given out in 1922, the Newbery Medal was the first award given for children’s books. The award is given to the author of the best children’s book every year. Visit this site for a list of all of the winners (be sure to check out the Book Notes page for a review of the 2010 winner!): http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/alsc/awardsgrants/bookmedia/newberymedal/newberyhonors/newberymedal.cfm
- The Caldecott Medal recognizes the best picture book. Don’t skip this list just because it is for picture books! These books are great for ALL readers. Visit the library to check out a signed copy of the 2010 Honor Book All the World.
